Este es lo
que aprendí sobre el subjuntivo esta semana. Hay dos tipas de frases:
indicativo y subjuntivo. (Pues, también hay preguntas y exclamaciones y
comandos, pero me sabes lo que quiero decir.) El indicativo dice una
declaración de un hecho. Por otro lado, el subjuntivo dice una declaración de
incertidumbre. Cuando decimos frases como, “Espero que,” “Dudo que,” “Es
imposible que,” “A menos que,” “Aunque,” usamos el subjuntivo porque lo que
expresamos son inciertos. No es tan difícil en mi mente, pero estoy segura que
necesitaré mucha práctica para reconocer
estos casos en mi discurso y en mi escrito.

This is what I’ve learned about the subjunctive this
week. There are two types of sentences: indicative and subjunctive. (Well,
there are also questions and exclamations and commands, but you know what I’m
saying.) The indicative tells a statement of fact. On the other hand, the
subjunctive tells a statement of uncertainty. When we say phrases like, “I hope
that,” “I doubt that,” “It’s impossible that,” “Unless,” “Although,” we use the
subjunctive because that which we express is uncertain. It’s not so difficult
in my mind, but I’m sure that I’ll need a lot of practice to recognize these
cases in my speech and in my writing.
