Es un pensamiento común entre inglés sólo hablantes que inglés es fácil de aprender. Sin embargo, cuando empiece a aprender un nuevo idimo, de repente se da cuenta como extraño es inglés. Tal vez pienses por qué una palabra – esperar – significa tres cosas diferentes. (Tambíen , tal vez te preguntes cómo traducir la canción de Dusty Springfield.) Pero, recuerda que en inglés tenemos muchas palabras que significan diferentes cosas y, también, suenan iguales pero no están escritos por iguales. Por ejemplo, carne no es lo mismo que conozco y leí no es lo mismo que rojo. También, tenemos palabras que están escritos por iguales, pero no suenan iguales, como lágrima y rasgo. Podía ser muy confuso, ¿no?

It’s a common thought among English-only speakers that English is easy to learn. However, when you start to learn a new language, you suddenly realize how strange English is. Maybe you wonder why one word – to wait/wish/hope – means three different things. (You also wonder how to translate that Dusty Springfield song.) But remember that in English we have many words that mean different things and, also, sound alike but aren’t spelled alike. For example, meat isn’t the same as meet and read isn’t the same as red. Also, we have words that are written the same but don’t sound the same, like tear (from the eye) and tear (to rip). It can be very confusing, can’t it?
